Eubank Sr. and Benn revive rivalry at press conference
London – Chris Eubank Sr. and Nigel Benn stole the show at the press conference ahead of the rematch between their sons, Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn, on Thursday. The iconic rivalry between Eubank Sr. and Nigel Benn, which marked the history of British boxing in the 90s, came back into the spotlight. They faced each other twice in the past, with Eubank winning the first fight by knockout in 1990 and a draw in the rematch three years later at Old Trafford. The presence of Eubank Sr. at the first fight in April was a surprise, arriving at the last moment and being greeted with applause by the fans in the Tottenham Hotspur stadium. The relationship between Eubank Jr. and his father, strained in previous years, had reunified shortly before the event. In the press conference in London, Eubank Sr. stole the show, entering the stage with his son to the rhythm of his old ring entrance song, “Simply The Best” by Tina Turner. The old rivals exchanged words, with Eubank Sr. accusing Nigel of having accused him of receiving money for his presence at the April fight.
Eubank Sr. continued:Regarding a son’s love. If a father accepts money, there’s nothing wrong with that. But if there’s a father who doesn’t accept money… then that must be studied.

When asked about Eubank Sr.’s comments, Nigel Benn replied: “Nothing. Water off a duck’s back, absolutely nothing. It’s about my son and Chris Jr. I’m not going to take it into account. We’re here to talk about a fight.”I don’t get angry easily, Nigel. And I don’t keep a record of wrongs. That’s why I win continuously, because I live according to the statutes of the spirit. So whoever told Nigel that I was paid any sum of money, lied to him. That you are repeating what they told you makes you a liar. So expose whoever told you that lie to clear your name.

When Conor Benn suggested they have a face-off, his father perked up and said: “Yes, I don’t mind having a face-off! All day, mate! I’ll have it all day with him. But it’s not about us. It’s about Jr. and Conor”.
Senior and Nigel Benn faced off after the press conference, but shook hands, with their sons ready to fight again on Saturday.
