Rematch Confirmed! Eubank Jr. vs. Benn II at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
The expected rematch between Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn is scheduled for November 15th at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the UK. The announcement was made on Tuesday by Turki Alalshikh, chairman of the General Entertainment Authority and the Saudi Boxing Federation. The first clash between Eubank Jr. and Benn, which took place on April 26, drew a crowd of 67,484 spectators. In a fight full of emotion, Eubank Jr. prevailed over his rival by unanimous decision, with scorecards of 116-111 in his favor by the three judges. Benn, who moved up in weight from 147 to 160 pounds to challenge Eubank Jr., suffered the first defeat of his career, despite feeling that he had done enough to win.
A highlight before the fight was Eubank Jr.’s entrance into the arena accompanied by his father, with whom he has had a long and troubled relationship. In a thrilling fight, Eubank Jr. was put in a difficult position by Benn in the eighth round, but managed to regain his composure and take control to keep the family legacy undefeated against the Benns. The family rivalry dates back more than 35 years, when the fathers of both boxers, Chris Eubank Sr. and Nigel Benn, faced each other in a middleweight bout on November 18, 1990. Eubank Sr. conquered the WBO middleweight title with a technical knockout in the ninth round. The intense rivalry between the fathers continued in their 1993 rematch, which ended in a split draw. Now, their children will continue the dispute with the same intensity, with the Benn family seeking their first victory in this rivalry later this year. The fight, which will be promoted by Sela, is expected to be contested at 160 pounds.
