Keyshawn Davis vs. Edwin De Los Santos Canceled After Failing to Make Weight

The anticipated matchup between Keyshawn Davis and Edwin De Los Santos has been canceled, Top Rank announced this Friday. The fight was scheduled for Saturday night at the Scope Arena in Norfolk, Virginia, Davis’ hometown.

The main reason for the cancellation was that Davis did not meet the required weight for the fight. Davis, who was going to defend the WBO lightweight title against De Los Santos in the main event, weighed in at 139.3 pounds on the scale, exceeding the 135-pound limit by 4.3 pounds.

Due to this situation, Davis was stripped of the title, and De Los Santos would have been the only boxer eligible to win the championship.

We re-negotiated 10 pounds, more money, but we concluded that Davis never tried to make weight. He arrived dancing at the scale. He didn’t want what happened to [Devin] Haney and [Ryan] Garcia to happen to him. We canceled the fight.

Sampson Lewkowicz, De Los Santos’ promoter

Lewkowicz was referring to Garcia’s situation, who did not make weight before his April 2024 fight against Haney. Garcia won by decision, but the result was turned into a “no contest” after he tested positive for a performance-enhancing substance.

The most important thing is Edwin. I hope he sets an example.

Now, the lightweight fight between Abdullah Mason and Jeremia Nakathila has been promoted to be the main event of Saturday’s card. In addition, Kelvin Davis, older brother of Keyshawn, has been included in the co-main event, facing Nahir Albright in a super lightweight fight.
