Dalton Smith will defend his WBC super lightweight title against Alberto Puello on June 6 in Sheffield, England.
British boxer Dalton Smith will make the first defense of his World Boxing Council (WBC) super-lightweight title against Alberto Puello on June 6 in his hometown of Sheffield, in the north of England. Matchroom confirmed this.
Smith (19-0, 14 KOs) conquered the WBC belt in January, defeating Subriel Matías with a knockout in the fifth round in Brooklyn.
Now, the world champion will return to the United Kingdom to fight for the first time at home.
Smith is number 5 in the super lightweight rankings. Puello (24-1, 14 KOs) is ranked number 7 and is the mandatory challenger to the Brit for his title.
Smith’s victory over Matías, and the way it happened, surprised many and was hailed as one of the great victories by a Brit on foreign soil. The fight turned into a brutal exchange of blows before Smith connected a couple of rights in the fifth round.
New York was an unforgettable trip, but now it’s about bringing big world championship fights to Sheffield and it’s great to start my reign as champion back at the Utilita Arena.
Puello is a two-time super lightweight champion, having won titles in 2022 and 2025 before the only loss of his career against Matías in July 2025.
