Canelo vs. Crawford: A Resounding Success on Netflix
The highly anticipated undisputed super middleweight title fight between Canelo Álvarez and Terence Crawford, which took place on Saturday night at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, drew a massive audience on Netflix.
More than 41 million viewers tuned in to the streaming platform to witness the match, the company announced on Monday.
Although the figure did not exceed the 108 million viewers who watched the fight between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson last November, the Canelo-Crawford event is positioned as the most-watched men’s boxing championship fight of the century.
According to Netflix, the fight peaked at over 24 million concurrent streams. The main event recorded an average minute audience (AMA) estimated at 36.6 million live + SD viewers, from start to finish, according to VideoAmp and Netflix.
The event topped Netflix’s rankings in 30 countries, including the United States, Mexico, Canada, Ireland, and Australia, and was in the top 10 in another 91 countries.
In addition, the fight, the first boxing event held at Allegiant Stadium, generated a box office of more than $47 million, becoming the largest in the stadium’s history and the third largest of all time, surpassed only by the fights of Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor ($55 million) and Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao ($72 million).
