Terence Crawford Dismisses Ilia Topuria Challenge After Victory

After Terence Crawford’s impressive victory, who dethroned Canelo Álvarez and became the undisputed super middleweight champion, a new challenger has emerged. However, Crawford shows no interest in facing him. Ilia Topuria, the undefeated two-division UFC champion, 28 years old, has expressed his desire to test his skills in boxing and is seeking a fight with Crawford, the undisputed three-division champion. Topuria used social media to suggest he would knock out Crawford if they faced each other in the ring. Crawford responded by calling him “delusional” and “drunk”. On Saturday, during the night of the fight, Topuria criticized Crawford’s ring entrance with “Canción del Mariachi” from the movie “Desperado”, a song that Topuria also uses to enter the octagon. Crawford, 37, downplayed the comparison during the post-fight press conference, but the UFC lightweight champion reacted on social media.

First he calls me a drunk, then he uses MY song,” Topuria said in a post on X. “Crawford, whenever you want, I’ll teach you how to dance that mariachi in the ring. And Canelo, I’ll save you a round after him.

Crawford not only ignored Topuria’s recent challenges, but also accused him of “seeking notoriety” and not being at Conor McGregor’s level.

“I definitely think he’s looking for notoriety,” Crawford said during an appearance on “The Ariel Helwani Show” on Monday. “I definitely think he would get in the ring with me for the fight check. That’s what we all do it for, but at the same time, I don’t know what the hell he’s doing. I don’t know what he’s thinking. There’s nothing to talk about.

Crawford went on to say that he had never seen Topuria fight and questioned why the UFC champion didn’t express his desire to fight him when they met at the UFC Performance Institute in Las Vegas a couple of months ago. Crawford also dismissed any comparison to the 2017 fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and McGregor, arguing that a fight with Topuria would not generate the same economic value for him. Crawford emphasized that he did not know Topuria and that he had never seen him fight.
