Terence Crawford Recaptures Boxing Throne
Following an impressive victory over Canelo Álvarez, Terence “Bud” Crawford has returned to the top of boxing, an achievement that solidifies him as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters today.
After 16 months, Crawford, who was surpassed by Oleksandr Usyk after the latter’s victory over Tyson Fury, has regained the top spot in the ranking. Crawford’s victory over Canelo Álvarez by unanimous decision in Las Vegas catapulted him from third place to the top.
Crawford’s performance was exceptional, moving up two weight classes to challenge Canelo for the undisputed super middleweight championship. This triumph also made him the only boxer in the four-belt era (since 2007) to be undisputed champion in three divisions: super lightweight, welterweight, and super middleweight.
Canelo Álvarez, former champion in four divisions, suffered his first defeat since he lost to Dmitry Bivol in May 2022, when he moved up a division to challenge for the light heavyweight title. Following his defeat to Crawford, Canelo drops two places and is now at number 10.
Naoya Inoue and Dmitry Bivol in Action
In Nagoya, Japan, Naoya Inoue successfully defended his undisputed super featherweight championship, achieving a unanimous decision victory over Murodjon Akhmadaliev.
Despite his victory, Inoue dropped one spot in the rankings, landing at number 3. This change reflects the growing recognition of Crawford more than any fault in Inoue’s performance.
Dmitry Bivol, for his part, remains in fourth place, consolidating his position in the boxing elite.
