Oscar Collazo Retains World Titles After Controversial Finish
Oscar Collazo demonstrated his dominance in the ring by retaining the WBO and WBA strawweight titles. The victory came by technical knockout in the seventh round against Jayson Vayson, in a fight that generated controversy over the decision of Vayson’s corner to stop the fight. The fight, which unfolded in a competitive environment, showed an aggressive Vayson, despite having been knocked down in the first round by a left hook from Collazo (13-0, 10 KOs). Vayson managed to recover and focused his attacks on Collazo’s body in the fourth round. Collazo responded with effective combinations, leading Vayson (14-2-1, 8 KOs) to the ropes in rounds six and seven. The decision by Vayson’s corner to stop the fight surprised many, as the pugilist did not appear to be in imminent danger.Collazo, representing Puerto Rico, adds his third consecutive victory by way of the quick route, consolidating himself as champion since 2023. He conquered the WBO title by defeating Melvin Jerusalem in May 2023, and subsequently added the WBA title in 2024, by knocking out Knockout CP Freshmart in November of that same year. They thought I was dazed, but I wanted to keep fighting. Of course, I respect the corner’s decision for the boxer’s safety. I felt the blows on my body, but I thought I could handle it.

I think the knockout was good. I was pressing, choosing my punches. In the seventh round we were going to throw and throw, and we got the knockout. In the last three rounds I was wearing him down. I knew I was going to get it. I applied the pressure as I wanted. I saw that he was getting tired, and I wanted to choose my punches in that round and they stopped it.
