The anticipated fight between the undisputed super middleweight champion, Canelo Álvarez, and the undefeated four-division champion, Terence Crawford, has undergone significant changes. The initial date of Friday, September 12th, has been moved to Saturday, September 13th.
In addition to the date change, the originally announced venue for the match, Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, could also change.
Turki Alalshikh, chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, was the one who made the announcement to Ring Magazine on Tuesday. Alalshikh acquired the magazine last year.
This fight will mark the first event promoted by Alalshikh and the boxing promoter TKO, led by UFC CEO Dana White.
The Friday date had been initially announced to avoid competition with the college football games scheduled for Saturday. However, the shift to Saturday now pits the Canelo-Crawford event against UFC 320, dubbed Noche UFC, which will tentatively take place in Mexico in celebration of Mexico’s Independence Day.
The Riyadh Season event could be held in five possible locations in New York City, Los Angeles, or Las Vegas.

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) is scheduled to host Idaho State at Allegiant Stadium on September 13.
No specific reasons were provided for the change of date and location. However, White recently commented on the possibility of Canelo-Crawford taking place in a stadium instead of an arena.
When they say we’re promoting it, I’m doing the promotion, the production, the operations of the event, the public relations, everything related to the fight as if it were a UFC fight.
Dana White
In addition to the change of date and location, the fight will now be available via pay-per-view instead of an alternative streaming option.
