Cecilia Braekhus Retires in Style

The undisputed former welterweight champion, Cecilia Braekhus, has decided to end her successful boxing career with a resounding victory. Braekhus (39-2-1, 9 KOs) defeated Ema Kozin (24-2-1, 12 KOs) by unanimous decision on Saturday, securing the WBC and WBO super welterweight titles. The judges scored the fight 97-93, 96-94 and 98-92 in favor of Braekhus, who proved her worth by becoming a champion in a second weight category. The event took place at the Nova Spektrum in her home country, Norway. Braekhus, 44, had announced that this fight would be her farewell to professional boxing. However, her performance in the ring suggested that she still had much to offer if she decided to continue her career. Kozin started the fight with an energetic pace, but Braekhus, with her experience, quickly adapted and began to punish her Slovenian opponent with precise blows to the body and head. Kozin, whose only other defeat was against Claressa Shields, had difficulty deciphering Braekhus’s style, who was supported by a crowd of 3,000 fans.

I want to thank the boxing community all over the world, my friends in England, Los Angeles, everyone. I am very happy.
