Boxing division rankings underwent significant changes following a series of exciting fights. Xander Zayas became the youngest active champion, while other boxers climbed the rankings after notable victories.
Changes in the Classifications
Xander Zayas, at just 22 years old, won the vacant WBO super welterweight title after defeating Jorge García. This triumph propelled Zayas to the top of the division. Bruce “Shu Shu” Carrington maintained his undefeated record by defeating Mateus Heita, obtaining the WBC interim featherweight title. Carrington also climbed positions in his category. In Japan, Ricardo Sandoval pulled off a surprise by defeating Kenshiro Teraji by split decision, winning the WBC and WBA flyweight titles. Sandoval now leads the division. A late draw between Daigo Higa and Antonio Vargas in the WBA bantamweight title fight resulted in a draw. Vargas advanced in the rankings, while Higa, despite announcing his retirement, maintained his position. Kyosuke Takami re-entered the light flyweight ranking after his victory over Erick Rosa, obtaining the WBA title.
