Conor Benn Dominates Chris Eubank Jr. in an Epic Rematch Night

In a night that will be etched in the memory of boxing fans, Conor Benn achieved a dominant victory over his rival Chris Eubank Jr., sealing a rematch that exceeded expectations in the ring. Benn (24-1, 14 KOs) demonstrated his superiority by defeating Eubank (35-4, 25 KOs) by unanimous decision, with scores of 119-107, 116-110 and 118-108, in a middleweight fight that did not award any title. The 29-year-old boxer took advantage of a slow and lackluster performance by Eubank to avenge the defeat suffered seven months ago. The fight revived the historic rivalry between both families, a legacy that dates back to the epic clashes of their fathers in the 1990s. Eubank, 36, did not show the energy, variety of punches, or explosiveness that characterized their first encounter. Benn’s superiority became evident, although the fight lacked the drama of the first encounter until the last round. Benn sent Eubank to the canvas twice, first with a jab and then with a series of punches culminating in a right hand.

Benn, from Ilford, Essex, dominated Eubank, connecting the most forceful blows. The crowd, made up of more than 60,000 people, reacted with enthusiasm to the two spectacular knockdowns that marked the twelfth round. Benn’s victory, the most important of his career, establishes a 2-1-1 score between the families, after Chris Eubank’s technical knockout victory over Nigel in 1990 and the controversial points draw in 1993. After the fight, Benn declared that he is not interested in a third match, with the score now at 1-1.

“It’s been a journey, I feel like it’s the end of the Benn-Eubank saga, it’s over, it’s finished,” said Benn.

Benn is also considering opportunities for world titles at super welterweight and welterweight, after moving up in weight to face Eubank Jr. earlier this year. Welterweight champions Lewis Crocker (IBF) and Mario Barrios (WBC) are strong candidates to be Benn’s next rivals, instead of a third fight with Eubank. Conor Benn added: “I would like Barrios for the WBC world title, Ryan Garcia, Roland Romero, Devin Haney, all those Yankees can have it. Any day of the week, and twice on Sundays.” Eubank’s fourth defeat, who won the first fight with scores of 116-112 on all three scorecards, is a harsh blow to his aspirations for a lucrative fight against figures like Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez. Based on this performance, facing the Mexican would be a bad move for Eubank.

“I’ve been through hell and back to get to this night, it is what it is,” Eubank said. “I gave it my best, the guy fought hard, he has power. We put on a show, Benn was the better man tonight.

Eubank, after being accompanied to the ring by the rapper 50 Cent, kept a low profile during the fight.

Both boxers showed positivity at the beginning, and Eubank connected perhaps the best punch, a right hand in the first round. Benn connected a couple of good hooks at the beginning of the second, before both were warned for grappling.

Benn showed a better performance in the second round and continued to outperform Eubank in the third. With Benn on the offensive, Eubank sought to counterattack, but after four rounds, he seemed to be at a disadvantage.

In the fourth round, Benn connected some strong right hands, but Eubank couldn’t respond, raising his work rate in the fifth. After a slow first half of the fight, Eubank continued boxing at a slow pace and paid dearly for it at the end of the seventh round, when he received a strong right hand. Benn also connected with Eubank with a good right hand in the ninth round before sending him to the canvas twice in a thunderous final round. Benn first sent Eubank staggering from a straight to the jaw for a count, then followed up with a frenzied attack to send an unsteady Eubank back to the canvas with a final right hand. Eubank survived to hear the bell, but knew he had lost.
