Domestic Violence Case Against Gervonta Davis Dismissed
The domestic violence case involving WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis has been closed. According to the Miami-Dade County Clerk of Courts website, the misdemeanor battery charge against Davis, stemming from an alleged domestic altercation with his ex-partner on Father’s Day, was formally dismissed Tuesday morning. This occurred after the woman decided not to proceed with the case against the boxer.Additionally, the victim’s mother, who witnessed the incident, also did not cooperate and did not appear at a pre-trial conference on August 7, despite having been summoned. Subsequent attempts to contact her by phone were unsuccessful. Davis was arrested in Miami Beach and transferred to the Doral Police Department, where he was held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on July 11. He was released that same day after posting a $10,000 bond. According to the police report, Davis’s ex-partner told the police that she had a verbal argument with the boxer about “personal matters and Gervonta’s insecurities about his son’s sexuality.” Davis arrived at his residence at 5:04 p.m. ET on June 15 to pick up his children, at which point the situation escalated. After putting both children in Davis’s car, the woman alleged that Davis hit her “on the back of the head with a closed fist” and slapped her in the face. After regaining custody of her children during the incident, the woman went to a local hospital for medical treatment. A note in the police report also suggested that there were “approximately 10” undocumented physical altercations between Davis and his ex-partner. Davis’ initial court hearing was scheduled for July 29, but it was postponed until Tuesday, the day Judge Elisabeth Maria Espinosa Marin closed the case. Davis was informally linked to a rematch with Lamont Roach Jr. in August, after both fighters had a controversial majority draw in March. However, the fight was never formally announced, and it is unknown when Davis will return to the ring.“This case was dismissed as the victim does not wish to proceed with the process, according to her lawyer, Lindsey Chase, Esq., and her feelings were confirmed directly by the Assistant State Attorney in charge of the case,” the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office told TMZ Sports.
