PARIS – The Italian duo of Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini conquered the women’s doubles title at Roland Garros, after defeating the Kazakh Anna Danilina and the Serbian Aleksandra Krunic with a score of 6-4, 2-6 and 6-1.

This triumph represents the first Grand Slam title for the Italians, who had already celebrated on the same court by winning the Olympic gold in doubles at the Paris 2024 Games.

For Errani, a 38-year-old veteran, this victory adds to her success in mixed doubles, where she was also crowned champion alongside her compatriot Andrea Vavassori.

The match was characterized by break exchanges in the first set, until the Olympic champions, finalists at Roland Garros last year, managed to secure the set with a new break on the scoreboard 5-4.

Danilina and Krunic, finalists at the 2022 Australian Open, reacted strongly, winning the second set. However, the Italians took the lead in the third set, achieving two breaks that allowed them to establish a 5-0 lead.

Finally, the Italians, ranked sixth in the doubles ranking, sealed their first Grand Slam title as a pair, when Krunic sent a forehand into the net.

Paolini, who reached the final in both singles and doubles at Roland Garros last year, was eliminated in the fourth round of this year’s singles edition.
