Kyle Larson Crowned NASCAR Champion in Dramatic Finale
AVONDALE, Arizona – Kyle Larson clinched his second NASCAR championship in a race filled with unexpected turns and raw emotions. The driver, who started at a disadvantage, seized a crucial moment to secure the victory at Phoenix Raceway.
The race seemed destined for Denny Hamlin, who dominated much of the event. However, a late yellow flag, caused by a problem with William Byron’s car, dramatically changed the course of the competition.
“Simply incredible. I can’t believe it,” expressed Larson, visibly excited.

Hamlin, who was leading the race, was forced to pit to change tires, while Larson opted for a different strategy. This positioned Larson in fifth place for the exciting final two laps.
Hamlin’s strategy, despite being the correct one according to his team leader, was not enough to catch Larson, who finally crossed the finish line in third place, securing the championship.
Ryan Blaney, who was not in contention for the title, won the race.
“I don’t really have much emotion right now. I’m just numb from the shock,” Hamlin said after consoling his daughters in the pit.
For Larson, this is his second championship, adding another milestone to his career after his victory in 2021 with Hendrick Motorsports.
The frustration was evident in Hamlin’s team, especially for the driver, who led 208 of the 319 laps and started from the pole position. This is the sixth time Hamlin has seen a title slip away in his 20 years in the competition. The 44-year-old driver showed great composure throughout the week, but luck was not on his side.
Hamlin’s teammate, Chase Briscoe, finished in 18th place, while Byron, Larson’s teammate, finished in 33rd place due to the incident that caused the yellow flag.
“I’m so sorry that was a yellow flag obviously. I hate it. I hate it for Denny. I hate it for the 11 team,” Byron said.

Larson, who hadn’t won a race since early May, extends his winless streak to 24 consecutive races.
