Manchester City has worn a special badge on their shirt for the last 18 months.
The champion of the revamped FIFA Club World Cup will be able to display a commemorative badge on their uniform until the next edition, which will be held in 2029.Traditionally, clubs are allowed to wear this badge for one year. However, the change in the tournament format has modified this rule.
The Club World Cup used to be held annually in December, with the last edition held in 2023. Since then, Manchester City has played with the golden emblem in the center of their jersey, despite Real Madrid winning the Intercontinental Cup in December 2024.
Although the Intercontinental Cup is, in essence, the former Club World Cup with a new name, FIFA only considers the new Club World Cup to be the continuation of the tournament. This has allowed Manchester City to display the badge for 18 months, until the start of the new event in the United States this month.
FIFA has confirmed that, since the next Club World Cup, which will now feature 32 teams, will not be played until 2029, the team that lifts the trophy next month will be able to use the commemorative badge for four years.
