Dominican Weightlifting and Wrestling: Cándida Vásquez Leads Triumphant Return

PUNTA CANA, LA ALTAGRACIA. The national weightlifting and wrestling teams returned to Dominican soil after their outstanding participation in the XX Bolivarian Games 2025 Ayacucho-Lima, where they obtained a total of eight medals. The arrival of the athletes, who competed representing the Dominican Republic, took place on Wednesday evening.

Success at the Bolivarian Games

Cándida Vásquez, gold medalist in weightlifting, led the group of nine athletes who arrived at Punta Cana airport. The weightlifting team won a gold medal, a silver medal, and two bronze medals. Meanwhile, the wrestling team achieved three silver medals and one bronze medal.

We positively value returning to the country with good results, as well as serving as an inspiration for their teammates to win medals.

Along with Vásquez, bronze medalists in weightlifting, Pamela Rojas and Dauri Vargas, also arrived, accompanied by the other Dominican representatives of the discipline and their coaches. Rojas expressed his surprise at the results obtained, while Vargas highlighted the good work done. Edison Adames García, silver medalist in wrestling, expressed his pride in representing the country. Carlos Alberto Adames, also a silver medalist in wrestling, commented that the competition will serve as preparation for the qualifier for the Central American and Caribbean Games.
