Frank Ragnow Returns from Retirement to Strengthen the Lions
The four-time Pro-Bowl center, Frank Ragnow, has decided to come out of retirement and play again with the Detroit Lions. The news has generated great anticipation among fans, who celebrate the return of a key player for the team.
A source revealed that Ragnow’s decision is due to his love for the game. The deadline for the player to come out of retirement and be able to participate in the current season expired on Wednesday, which adds excitement to his return.
The Lions have placed Ragnow on the exempt/commissioner permission list.
Although his return could be next Thursday against the Dallas Cowboys, such a quick reincorporation is considered unlikely. The most likely date for his return to the field would be December 14, when the Lions face the Rams in Los Angeles.
Frank Ragnow’s contractual rights with the Lions are maintained for two more seasons, the current one and the next. His contract will be reinstated this week.
Ragnow had announced his retirement in June, after seven seasons in the NFL.
Throughout his career, 29-year-old Ragnow has battled various injuries. In 2021, after playing with a fractured throat, General Manager Brad Holmes and coach Dan Campbell made him the highest-paid center in the league at the time, with a four-year, $54 million extension.
In 2024, he participated in 16 games, missing only the Week 4 game against Seattle due to a partial pectoral muscle tear. After that, he didn’t miss any games as a starter and was selected for the Pro Bowl for the third consecutive season. In Ragnow’s absence, veteran Graham Glasgow filled the center position, while the Lions have had a 7-4 start to the season.
In addition, the Lions activated defensive end Marcus Davenport from injured reserve. Davenport had been on the injured list since September 22 due to a chest injury.
