England captain Maro Itoje expressed his enthusiasm for his team’s potential, but emphasized that they still have a long way to go to achieve their goals. England’s 27-23 victory over Argentina on Sunday marked their eleventh consecutive win in test matches this year, meaning they have gone the entire 2025 without losing at home. Their last defeat was in the Six Nations in Dublin against Ireland in February. Since then, Steve Borthwick’s team has defeated Scotland, France, New Zealand, and Australia, among others. The team’s depth has also developed, as demonstrated by the performance of Max Ojomoh, who was named player of the match in his second test match. Itoje was satisfied with his autumn campaign, with victories over the Wallabies, the All Blacks, Fiji and Argentina, but urged caution and refused to get ahead of himself.
The player also highlighted the quality and depth of the team, as well as the evolution of the playing style. Itoje emphasized the need to keep working and improving, but he was optimistic about the team’s future. Coach Steve Borthwick agreed that the team has progressed both as a unit and individually. Borthwick highlighted that the team is advancing in the progress that has been discussed and that the autumn series has allowed that development to continue.I’ve been part of the England team for several years and I’m as excited now as ever.
