The Buffalo Bills continue to reinforce their receiving corps with the addition of veteran Brandin Cooks to the active roster, according to information confirmed this Tuesday.
Cooks, who was released by the New Orleans Saints last Saturday and passed through waivers on Monday, requested his release, according to Saints coach Kellen Moore. This process was finalized during the last week.
The Bills have been utilizing Gabe Davis, receiver, coming from the practice squad in the last two games. In addition, the team signed Mecole Hardman, receiver and returner, this month, but he was placed on the injured reserve list due to a calf injury suffered in his first game with the team in Week 11.
Keon Coleman, a second-year receiver, has been benched for disciplinary reasons in the last two games. The Bills might not have a 1,000-yard receiver for the second consecutive year. Tight end Dalton Kincaid leads the team in receiving touchdowns with four, despite having played only eight games this season.
The Bills’ offense has scored fewer than 20 points in the three road losses this year and they face Pittsburgh on Sunday. At home, the team averages 32.5 points per game, while on the road the average is 21.8.
Bills general manager Brandon Beane stated after the trade deadline that the team tried to acquire players, but no deals materialized.
Cooks, 32, was selected in the first round by the Saints in 2014. Throughout his 12 seasons in the NFL, he has 729 receptions, 9,697 yards, and 60 touchdowns.
This season marked his second stint with the Saints. He has also played for the New England Patriots, Los Angeles Rams, Houston Texans, and Dallas Cowboys.
In 10 games with the Saints this season, Cooks had 19 receptions for 165 yards and no touchdowns.
