Riots tarnish PSG’s Champions League celebration

Paris, France – Celebrations for Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League title were marred by incidents that resulted in the arrest of 79 people, according to Laurent Nuñez, Paris police prefect.

The celebrations took place at the Parc des Princes, but after the celebration, groups of people blocked the Paris ring road.

Subsequently, some individuals went to the Champs-Élysées, where they launched pyrotechnic devices and attempted to attack businesses. They also tried to create barricades with trash containers and fences, according to Nuñez.

The incidents were less serious than those that occurred after PSG’s victory over Inter.

“There is a problem with legislation, immediate sanctions are needed”

Laurent Nuñez

The police prefect pointed out that these actions were carried out with “malicious intent” and unrelated to football.

The Government deployed 5,400 police officers in Paris and its metropolitan area. Despite this, Nuñez stated that “there was no security failure”, although he admitted not being satisfied with the overall result.
