Jess Fishlock Extends Her Legacy with Seattle Reign FC

The legend of women’s football, Jess Fishlock, has signed a new one-year contract with the Seattle Reign FC, ensuring her stay with the team until 2026. This renewal marks almost 14 years of Fishlock in Seattle, solidifying her position as a fundamental pillar of the club.

“I’m still a competitor. That will never leave me, unfortunately, which is a gift. Even though it’s been 14 years, I still want to win a championship for Seattle.”

Fishlock, who recently retired from international football after two decades with Wales, continues to demonstrate her passion for the game. She is the only player in the NWSL who remains active with the original team since the league’s inception in 2013. The midfielder was key in the Reign’s successful seasons in 2014 and 2015, where they won the NWSL Shield. In addition, she was named NWSL MVP in 2021.

With 48 goals and 30 assists for Seattle, Fishlock leads the goal contributions in club history. In 2025, at the age of 38, she was the Reign’s top scorer with six goals and two assists. Fishlock expressed that she feels renewed, especially with the team in transition and the arrival of new talents, both on and off the field. The organization has allowed her to manage her body and take time off when she needs it, which she attributes to the strong relationships she has built in Seattle. Reign coach Laura Harvey highlighted Fishlock’s vision of the game and her ability to adapt in important moments.

“Her tactical awareness, her ability to adapt in big moments, and her commitment to elevate the players around her will continue to drive this team. She leads by example every day, and having her experience and presence in the locker room is invaluable as we move towards 2026.”

Fishlock retired from international football after leading Wales to the final stage of the Women’s European Championship for the first time in 2025. The player has experienced both the successes and challenges of the club, including changes of venue. This deep connection is what motivates her to continue.

“There’s something about this journey with a single club, going through the ups and downs and the rebuilding, going through moves to try and connect with the fans. It makes the low moments worse because you have a deep connection with your club and your fanbase, but it makes the high moments so much better for the same reason.”
