Baker Mayfield Suffers Shoulder Injury
Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield suffered a sprain in his left shoulder during Sunday night’s loss against the Los Angeles Rams. The injury forced him to leave the field in the second half of the game. Coach Todd Bowles confirmed that Mayfield will undergo an MRI on Monday to determine the severity of the injury. After leading the Buccaneers on an offensive drive that culminated in a touchdown at the end of the second quarter, Mayfield went to the medical tent on the sideline. Although he was considered questionable to return due to the injury to his non-dominant shoulder, he returned for Tampa Bay’s next offensive drive. In the last play of the first half, after attempting a long pass, Mayfield fell to the ground and seemed to feel pain again. He was ruled out for the second half and was later seen on the bench with his left arm in a sling. Before leaving the game, Mayfield completed 9 of 19 passes for 41 yards, with a touchdown and two interceptions. He was replaced by Teddy Bridgewater, who will take the reins for Tampa Bay if Mayfield is unable to play. Bridgewater went 8-of-15 passing for 62 yards against the Rams on Sunday. His last start was in Week 17 of the 2022 season with the Dolphins. He got hurt earlier [in the game], said he was fine, came back and then re-aggravated it on the last play [of the first half].

Bridgewater arrived in Los Angeles on Sunday morning after attending a funeral in Miami.I have a lot of confidence in what Teddy can do. With a full week of practice, taking every snap, every play, we believe he’ll be fine.

Bridgewater declined to speculate on whether Mayfield will be available for the next game against the Arizona Cardinals next Sunday. My mentor passed away and I came home for his funeral, so I arrived today at about 10:30 in the morning and had to play in the game. I think it’s great. My lifestyle is more like a rock star, I guess. But it’s unfortunate that, you know, I came because of an injury.

You never want to see your teammates injured, especially your leader. But Baker is a tough guy. He tried to come back and tough it out for the guys. That says a lot about him, says a lot about this team.
