Spain Qualifies for the Davis Cup Final
BOLOGNA, Italy – Spain secured their place in the Davis Cup final thanks to the outstanding performance of the doubles pair formed by Marcel Granollers and Pedro Martínez, who achieved a crucial victory over the German duo composed of Tim Pütz and Kevin Krawietz.
The match, which ended with a score of 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 in favor of the Spanish, secured their overall victory by 2-1 in the semi-final.
Alexander Zverev had kept Germany’s hopes alive by defeating Jaume Munar with a score of 7-6 (2), 7-6 (5). Previously, Pablo Carreño Busta had given Spain the first point by defeating Jan-Lennard Struff in an exciting match.
Carreño Busta, in a display of tenacity, saved five consecutive set points in the tiebreak before taking the victory against the veteran German with a final score of 6-4, 7-6 (6).
Granollers and Martínez surprised Pütz and Krawietz, inflicting only their second defeat on them in the Davis Cup.
This victory boosts the Spanish team, which did not have the participation of Carlos Alcaraz, injured, to the final for the first time in six years.
In the final, Spain will face Italy, the defending champion that defeated Belgium on Friday.
