The excitement of Formula 1 reaches its peak! With three races remaining, the 2025 season of the drivers’ championship promises an electrifying finish. The fight for glory is at stake, and three drivers are competing for the coveted title. After 21 rounds full of unexpected twists, ups and downs, and unforgettable moments, the battle for the 2025 drivers’ championship is approaching its climax. The competition is more open than ever. Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri, and Max Verstappen are the main contenders who will face each other in a series of three decisive grand prix. But, who will take the final victory?

How are the current positions?

After a perfect weekend in São Paulo, Norris leads with a 24-point advantage over his McLaren teammate, Piastri. Both young drivers are aiming for their first F1 crown. Verstappen, the current world champion of Red Bull, is 25 points behind. George Russell, from Mercedes, is in fourth place, but is too far away to have mathematical possibilities of winning the title.

Who is in better shape?

Although Verstappen achieved three victories in four races before the Mexico City Grand Prix, the answer to that question is undoubtedly Norris. Norris, after struggling with the McLaren car at the beginning of the season compared to his teammate, has achieved pole position and victory in consecutive races, as well as a Sprint victory at Interlagos, quickly going from chaser to chased. Piastri’s form, on the other hand, has declined. The Australian was the favorite to win his first title after winning the Dutch Grand Prix, which, along with Norris’s retirement, gave him a 34-point lead, but he has yet to stand on the top step of the podium since then, and hasn’t even achieved a podium finish in the last four races. This has propelled Norris into the driver’s seat in this title battle.

When could the title be won?

In the three remaining major races (25 points per victory) and one Sprint (eight points), there is a maximum of 83 points available for a driver, 58 of which will still be in play after the next race in Las Vegas. That means that Norris, even with a perfect weekend in which his two rivals don’t score points, won’t be able to secure the championship on the famous Strip, as he can only extend his lead to a maximum of 49 points. Therefore, the title could be won in Qatar, where a driver would need to have at least a 26-point advantage over the runner-up.

Four seconds in the races and the Sprint would be enough for Norris to triumph, while Piastri and, in particular, Verstappen, trust that the Briton will have problems at some point.

What else is at stake in the final rounds?

Outside of the battle for the drivers’ title, with the Constructors’ already secured by McLaren, the most fascinating fight for the last triple-header of races is between the powerhouses Mercedes, Red Bull and Ferrari. The three teams are competing for second place in the team standings, which is crucial for prize money and momentum. However, the lower a team finishes in the championship, the more time in the wind tunnel they are allowed to work on next season’s car. And with a major overhaul of the rules for 2026, finishing fourth instead of second may not be the worst thing in the world. After a good weekend in São Paulo, Mercedes is second with 398 points, with Red Bull, powered by Verstappen, 30 points behind. After a disastrous double retirement, Ferrari is fourth with 362 points.
