Ovechkin Reaches Historic Milestone with His 903rd Goal and Leads Capitals to Victory
In a night full of emotions, Alex Ovechkin continued his legend in the NHL by scoring his goal number 903, contributing to the victory of the Washington Capitals over the Los Angeles Kings with a score of 2-1.
Ovechkin, with this goal, surpassed Gordie Howe as the top scorer in a single venue during the NHL regular season, with his 442nd goal at Capital One Arena.
Matt Roy also made an appearance on the scoreboard for the Capitals, who managed to break a two-game losing streak, boosting themselves in the standings.
The Kings’ only goal was scored by Anze Kopitar, who cut short his team’s four-game winning streak. This loss marks only the second time the Kings have lost in regulation time as visitors this season.
The match opened with an early goal by Roy, who deflected a shot from Aliaksei Protas, beating goaltender Darcy Kuemper. This was Roy’s first goal in 25 games, going back to the previous season.
In the second period, Ovechkin demonstrated his goal-scoring prowess by capitalizing on a pass from Connor McMichael and scoring from near the net. This achievement marks goals in two consecutive games and three in his last four games.
Kopitar brought Los Angeles closer on the scoreboard with his third goal of the season, taking advantage of a pass from Corey Perry on a power play. However, Washington has conceded goals on power plays in three consecutive games and in five of the last six.
Despite the Kings’ effort, they failed to beat Charlie Lindgren, who stopped 30 of 31 shots, securing his second win of the season after losing his previous four starts.
For his part, Kuemper made 23 saves from 25 shots in the defeat.
