Chris Sale Makes History with 2,500 Strikeouts as Braves Beat Phillies

In an exciting MLB encounter, Chris Sale shone with a historic performance, becoming the fastest pitcher to reach 2,500 strikeouts. The Atlanta Braves achieved a resounding victory over the Philadelphia Phillies with a score of 9-3, thus splitting the doubleheader on Thursday night.

The afternoon game favored the Phillies, who won with a score of 5-4.

Sale reached the 2,500 strikeout milestone by striking out Edmundo Sosa in the sixth inning, accumulating a total of eight strikeouts in the game. He achieved this feat in 2,026 innings, surpassing the previous record of 2,107 2/3 set by Randy Johnson.

With this mark, Sale joins a select group of pitchers in MLB history, being the fortieth to reach 2,500 strikeouts. He shares this achievement with prominent figures such as Clayton Kershaw, Justin Verlander, and Max Scherzer, being the only active pitchers currently who have reached this figure.

Sosa was the last batter faced by Sale, who allowed only two hits in six scoreless innings. Austin Riley led the Braves’ offense with a double, a home run, and four RBIs. Ozzie Albies also contributed with a home run and three RBIs, while Luke Williams added two RBIs for the Braves, who snapped a three-game losing streak. Zack Wheeler, for his part, allowed six runs in 5 1/3 innings for the Phillies, who suffered their second loss in their last 13 games.
