Utility infielder Enrique “Kike” Hernández underwent surgery on his left elbow on Friday. The injury, which he had been dealing with since May, did not allow him to fully participate in the regular season or the postseason, where the Los Angeles Dodgers won the World Series championship. Hernández, who played despite the injury, shared details about the surgery through his social media.

The versatile player revealed that the ailment will keep him out of action and he will not be able to represent Puerto Rico in the next World Baseball Classic. During the regular season, Hernández was on the injured list for more than a month due to elbow problems, but managed to return to the team in August. In the regular season, 34-year-old Hernández batted .203 with 10 home runs and 35 RBIs in 92 games. In the postseason, he contributed with a .250 average, one home run and seven RBIs, being key in obtaining the Dodgers’ second consecutive title.
