Jake Diekman Hangs Up His Spikes After a Distinguished MLB Career
Left-handed reliever Jake Diekman has announced his retirement from professional baseball after a 13-year career in the Major Leagues. During his career, Diekman left a significant mark on the sport, participating in 705 games with nine different teams.
“The time has come to retire as a Major League player,” Diekman stated.

Diekman, 38, did not participate in the current MLB season. In his last season, with the New York Mets, he recorded an ERA of 5.63 in 43 relief appearances.

Throughout his career, Diekman compiled a 27-34 record, with 19 saves and a 3.91 ERA. He played for the Phillies, Rangers, Diamondbacks, Royals, Athletics, Red Sox, White Sox, Rays, and Mets.
Diekman was part of the Phillies team that achieved a no-hitter against the Braves on September 1, 2014, pitching in the seventh inning of that historic game.
In 14 postseason appearances, Diekman had a 1-5 record with one save and a 4.15 ERA.
In his retirement announcement, Diekman expressed his gratitude to his teammates, coaches, and staff of the organizations for which he played, as well as the schools where he studied before his professional career.
