Liam Hendriks Denounces Threats After Red Sox Loss
Boston Red Sox pitcher Liam Hendriks has publicly denounced the death threats and offensive messages he has received, directed at both him and his family, following the team’s recent loss to the New York Mets.
Through his social media, Hendriks expressed his outrage at the cruel comments received, which included wishes that he would suffer from cancer and exhortations to suicide.
“Just as a warning: the threats against my life and my wife’s are horrible and cruel. You guys need help,” the player wrote. “Telling me to commit suicide or wishing I die of cancer is disgusting and vile.”

The veteran reliever, who overcame non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, has been an admired figure for his bravery on and off the field.
The incident occurred after his participation in Wednesday’s game, where he entered as a reliever in the sixth inning. Although he managed to close that inning, he allowed three consecutive hits to start the seventh, including a single by Venezuelan Luisangel Acuña.
Hendriks emphasized that this type of attack is unacceptable, regardless of whether they come from anonymous or verified accounts.
“It doesn’t matter if they do it from fake or real accounts. Maybe they should re-evaluate the purpose of their lives before hiding behind a screen to attack players and their families. Enough is enough.”

This episode occurs in a context where other players have also been victims of this type of harassment.
The Red Sox organization has not yet issued an official statement, but Hendriks’ message has generated a wave of support from both teammates and fans.
