Justin Verlander to the Injured List: Concern in the San Francisco Giants
SAN FRANCISCO, CA – The San Francisco Giants have announced that right-handed pitcher Justin Verlander will be placed on the injured list due to pectoral muscle discomfort. The news was confirmed by manager Bob Melvin this Wednesday. The injury occurred during Verlander’s start last Sunday against the Oakland Athletics. During the game, the pitcher showed signs of discomfort that affected both his control and the speed of his pitches.
In that outing, Verlander allowed five walks in just four innings. His fastball averaged 91.3 mph, a significant decrease compared to his usual velocity this season, which is around 94.2 mph.
Despite the coaching staff being aware of the situation, Verlander did not offer details after the game. Despite not having achieved victories in his first 10 starts with the Giants, the 42-year-old pitcher has maintained a competitive performance, with an ERA of 4.33, accumulating 41 strikeouts in 52.0 innings pitched.
The organization has not disclosed the estimated duration of Verlander’s absence nor who will take his place in the rotation.
This absence represents a challenge for the team, especially at this crucial stage of the season, as they seek to remain competitive in the National League West Division.
