HERNING, Denmark – The United States overcame a three-goal deficit in the first period to defeat Germany 6-3 at the ice hockey world championship on Saturday.

Conor Garland’s goal in the third period, specifically at 4:50 minutes, proved to be the decisive one, allowing the Americans to tie in points (11) with the Czech Republic, remaining two points behind the leader of Group B, Switzerland.

Tage Thompson scored at 1:42 of the game, also on a power play, marking his fourth goal of the tournament. Frank Nazar extended the lead, and then Drew O’Connor made it 3-0 with a rebound at 5:43 of the end of the first period.
