Sir Jim Ratcliffe, a minority shareholder in Manchester United, has experienced a significant decrease in his fortune in the last year, according to the latest edition of the Sunday Times Rich List.
Ratcliffe’s wealth decreased by £6.473 billion (approximately $8.612 billion), representing a drop of around 25% of his total fortune.
This decrease puts his fortune at £17.046 billion, compared to £23.519 billion the previous year.
Ratcliffe has been overseeing United’s football operations since he acquired a 27.7% stake in the club in February 2024.
However, his management has not been without challenges, as United has had a particularly difficult Premier League season.
Under Ratcliffe’s leadership, significant changes have been implemented at United, including:
- Staff reduction.
- Cost-cutting measures.
- Increase in ticket prices.
- Plans for a new stadium with a capacity of 100,000 spectators.
The team will face Tottenham in Bilbao on May 21, with the prize of Europa League glory and a place in next season’s Champions League for the winner.
Ratcliffe, who previously topped the list as the richest person in Great Britain, has dropped to seventh place this year.
Meanwhile, Rory McIlroy is the highest-ranked athlete on the list, holding the 19th position with a net worth of £260 million.
The richest British footballer is Harry Kane, who increased his net worth by £25 million, reaching £100 million.
