Louis Rees-Zammit returns to the Wales national team this autumn, marking his return to rugby after trying to succeed in the NFL.
The talented player, who previously represented Wales, joined the NFL through the International Player Pathway (IPP) program. This provided him with opportunities on the practice squads of the Kansas City Chiefs and the Jacksonville Jaguars.
After an 18-month period in the NFL, Rees-Zammit decided to return to rugby, signing a one-season contract with the Bristol Bears in August.
During their absence, Wales experienced a streak of 18 consecutive losses, from the 2023 Rugby World Cup to a test match in Japan in July. This period also saw the departure of Warren Gatland as head coach, being replaced by Steve Tandy.
Tandy added that the final selection is a reflection of a mix of youth and experience, and that he eagerly awaits the start of training camp. A notable absence is that of Will Rowlands, who announced his retirement from international rugby after having played 41 matches for Wales. It’s been very exciting to go through the whole process and realize how many good players we have.
Steve Tandy
Will has been a great servant to Welsh rugby. He has been an exceptional player and a great human being in the environment.
