Amid adversity and criticism, New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields has chosen to remain calm and focus on his performance on the field.
Fields Responds to Owner’s Criticisms
After team owner Woody Johnson publicly expressed concern about Fields’ performance, the player responded with serenity. “I don’t think talking to him will change anything,” Fields stated, downplaying the need for a conversation to clarify the situation. The quarterback added that he also doesn’t expect Johnson to approach him. The quarterback situation is complicated, and there’s a possibility that Fields could lose his position to Tyrod Taylor. Johnson’s statement, who blamed Fields for the team’s 0-7 start to the season, caused an unexpected uproar.“I don’t mind,” he said about the owner’s criticism. “Of course, everyone knows that I need to play better and that we need to play better as a team. And, of course, no matter how the offense goes as a unit, I will be blamed. And I understand, that’s what comes with the job. You can’t let anything affect your mind.”
Justin FieldsFields, who is under contract until 2026, did not want to speculate on the possibility of requesting a transfer. The 26-year-old player prefers to focus on the present and on the team’s next match. Woody Johnson alluded to Fields’ poor performance, commenting: “It’s difficult when you have a quarterback with the rating he has. He has skill, but something isn’t working.” He also added: “If we could complete a pass, it would look good.” Coach Aaron Glenn, for his part, stated that he is “on the same page” as Johnson regarding the personnel. Glenn declined to name the starter for Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals, with the intention of maintaining a competitive advantage. Everything indicates that Taylor could replace Fields.
