Chase Briscoe Secures a Spot in the NASCAR Final at Talladega

Chase Briscoe of Joe Gibbs Racing secured a spot in the NASCAR season finale after an exciting overtime victory at Talladega Superspeedway. Briscoe achieved his first superspeedway win, joining teammate Denny Hamlin as the Toyota drivers guaranteeing their place in the final at Phoenix Raceway. Briscoe, who started sixth on the restart, overtook his competitors in a two-lap race to cross the finish line. William Byron and Kyle Larson, both from Hendrick Motorsports, led the grid, but Byron lost the chance to win due to an incident caused by Carson Hocevar’s push. Briscoe counted on the support of Ty Gibbs, his teammate at JGR, who is not in contention for the championship.

Ty Gibbs, an incredible teammate. Honestly, I wouldn’t have won the race without him. This is an incredible team effort. I can’t believe I won a race on a superspeedway. I haven’t done it at any level.

There are still two spots available for the championship final, which will be decided in the next race. Larson and Christopher Bell, from JGR, are above the elimination line. Byron, Chase Elliott, and Team Penske drivers Joey Logano and Ryan Blaney are below the cut line. The race went into overtime after Chris Buescher, who was leading with two laps to go, was knocked off the track by Byron, pushed by Hocevar. Todd Gilliland finished second, while Ty Gibbs achieved third place. Bubba Wallace, from 23XI Racing, arrived in fourth place.

Elliott Suffers a Setback at Talladega

Chase Elliott’s hopes of advancing to the final were affected after being involved in an accident early in the race. Elliott, the 2020 NASCAR champion, was already below the cut line for elimination when he was involved in a multiple-car crash. Elliott, who now needs to win at Martinsville Speedway to reach the final in Phoenix, said:

It is what it is, I can’t change it now. All eyes on Martinsville and try to get a win.
