Bearman Criticizes Tsunoda’s Driving Style at the United States Grand Prix
Austin – Formula 1 rookie Oliver Bearman expressed his concern about the way Yuki Tsunoda drove during the United States Grand Prix, calling it dangerous and a bad example for young aspiring drivers. Bearman was visibly annoyed with Tsunoda after being forced to take evasive action to avoid the Red Bull while defending his position mid-race. Tsunoda locked the apex at Turn 15, forcing Bearman off the track and into a spin. Bearman did not hesitate to express his opinion on Tsunoda’s driving after the race. I felt that what he did was quite dangerous, against the spirit of how we should race and against the image we should project to the children growing up in karting and those things. This is not how we race. He was zig-zagging all over the place for a few laps. And when I finally tried to overtake, he reacted and didn’t leave the width of a car on the track, and that’s unfair, it’s not allowed, and that forced me to avoid him. It could have caused a huge crash, honestly, without my quick evasion, so it’s a great shame. Bearman finished in ninth place, while Tsunoda came in seventh, a position that the Haas driver considered achievable without the incident. Bearman did not limit himself to talking about the race incident when discussing Tsunoda’s weekend.
Added: I don’t think I moved when braking. Just a bit unfortunate how we ended up in that race like that, especially since we were having a good fight until then. That’s racing, right? I was totally in control, I had no lock-up and was literally side by side. I’m not his teammate, I’m just fighting to be in the top 10 or more, so yeah, I thought it was okay.
