Leylah Fernandez Crowned Champion at the Japan Open
Canadian tennis player Leylah Fernandez won the title at the Japan Open, after defeating the young promise Tereza Valentova in an exciting final.
Fernandez, demonstrating his experience and determination, prevailed over Valentova with partial scores of 6-0, 5-7 and 6-3, thus securing his fifth individual title in his professional career.
The final, which was played this Sunday, saw Fernandez dominate the first set in just 29 minutes. However, Valentova reacted in the second set, managing to tie the score after a crucial break in the twelfth game.
In the decisive set, Fernandez, currently ranked number 27 in the world, secured a break in the fourth game, which allowed her to take the lead. Despite the strong resistance from the Czech player, Fernandez remained calm and sealed the victory.
This triumph represents the second title of the season for Fernandez, who had already conquered the WTA 500 D.C. Open in July.
