AUSTIN – Promising American driver Jak Crawford will have his debut in an official Formula 1 session at the wheel of an Aston Martin in the Mexico City Grand Prix next week.

Crawford, 20 years old, will take Lance Stroll’s seat in the first practice session of the weekend.

F1 regulations require teams to give young drivers opportunities twice per season in each car.

Formerly a member of the Red Bull junior academy, Crawford joined Aston Martin’s young talent program in 2024 and has conducted several tests with the team since then. His participation in Mexico will mark his first appearance in a real Formula 1 session.

I’m excited to drive the AMR25 next week in Mexico for my first official Formula 1 session. I’ve worked closely with the team all year, so taking the next step and having track time during a grand prix weekend is really exciting. Announcing this in Texas, where I’m from, makes it even more special.

Crawford aspires to become the next American driver in F1. Recently, he failed to secure an opportunity with the new F1 team, Cadillac, which will join the grid as the eleventh team next season.
