Coco Gauff Conquers the Wuhan Open in All-American Final

American tennis player Coco Gauff won the Wuhan Open, after defeating her compatriot Jessica Pegula in a thrilling final that ended with scores of 6-4 and 7-5. Gauff, demonstrating a solid game, secured her second title of the year, adding this triumph to the one obtained at Roland Garros. With this victory, the young tennis player has accumulated a total of 11 titles in her professional career.

Winning every match of the tournament in straight sets, I don’t know if I had achieved that before in a title run. I feel very proud of what I achieved this week, regardless of today’s result.

The match became dramatic in the second set, when Gauff, at a crucial moment with a score of 5-3 against her, managed to hold her serve and subsequently break Pegula’s, tying the score at 5-5. Pegula, who had previously defeated the world number one, Aryna Sabalenka, in the semifinals, could not maintain the momentum and saw her aspirations of obtaining her tenth title frustrated. This victory makes Gauff the second American to conquer the Wuhan Open, following in the footsteps of Venus Williams, who won the title in 2015. This was the seventh match between Gauff and Pegula, with a 4-3 record in favor of Pegula. Both tennis players have also shared successes in doubles, winning several WTA titles together.

We’ve spent a lot of time together and, although I’m a bit older, I always admire and respect her very much. She is very mature for her age.

Gauff improves her record in finals to 11-3, while Pegula is left with a record of 9-11.
