Denny Hamlin Celebrates His 60th Victory with Emotion in Las Vegas

With tears in his eyes and a moment to compose himself, Denny Hamlin achieved his sixth checkered flag at the Las Vegas circuit, a victory that meant much more than a sporting triumph. Sunday’s race at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway marked his 60th career victory, an achievement dedicated to his father, who is facing health problems. This victory secures Hamlin one of the four spots in the NASCAR championship final. Hamlin, a three-time Daytona 500 winner, and considered one of the best drivers who have never won the Cup title, returns to the championship race for the first time since 2021. He is the driver with the most victories for Joe Gibbs Racing and now also for Toyota. Hamlin, currently tied for tenth on the NASCAR wins list with Kevin Harvick, couldn’t contain his emotion after an intense battle in the last ten laps, surpassing Kyle Larson and his JGR teammate, Chase Briscoe.

“I’m glad I was able to see victory number 60. That was very important to me.”

Denny Hamlin
Hamlin, with the support of his father, who introduced him to the world of motorsports, achieved this significant victory. The driver thanked his father for his support, who made financial sacrifices to support his career. In the final pit stop, Hamlin opted for four new tires, which allowed him to move up from fifth position. He managed to overtake Joey Logano and then Kyle Larson, finally taking the lead from Briscoe. This victory represents the greatest achievement for the new team leader, Chris Gayle, and the seventh win of the season for Hamlin, his best mark since 2020. Joe Gibbs, moved by Hamlin’s dedication, expressed his emotion at his driver’s achievement. In the race, Larson finished in second place, followed by Christopher Bell and Chase Briscoe. Tyler Reddick, who races for 23XI Racing, and Joey Logano completed the top six.

Of the top six, five remain in contention for the playoffs.

William Byron, who had problems in the race, suffered an accident that took him out of the competition. The four drivers with the least chances in the playoffs are Byron, Elliott, Logano and Blaney.

Problems for Blaney

Ryan Blaney, who started the race in second position, saw his title hopes affected by a tire issue, which caused a crash and relegated him to the end of the playoff standings. Blaney, who won the Cup championship in 2023, is now focusing on the next race at Talladega Superspeedway, where he will seek a crucial victory.

Reddick Competes Despite Family Difficulties

Tyler Reddick, despite his son’s delicate health situation, continues to compete. Reddick’s son, Rookie, needs surgery and is in a unit to monitor his health.

Rob Edwards Debuts in NASCAR

Rob Edwards, former team director of Andretti Global IndyCar, made his NASCAR debut as part of the ownership group. Edwards will assume the role of performance director for TWG Motorsports, participating in the organization’s properties and attending NASCAR races with Spire Motorsports.

Next Stop: Talladega

The next NASCAR race will take place at Talladega Superspeedway, where Ricky Stenhouse Jr. is the reigning champion.
