Aaron Glenn Evaluates Justin Fields’ Performance
After a 3,500-mile aerial journey, New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn analyzed quarterback Justin Fields’ performance with a more conciliatory perspective than previously shown. Glenn offered a direct assessment of Fields’ passing performance, highlighting a regression in his game. This setback translated into a loss of 55 yards, the result of nine sacks in the 13-11 defeat to the Denver Broncos, marking a negative day in franchise history and leaving the Jets with a 0-6 record. Glenn defended Fields after the game, but then admitted that the quarterback underperformed in the fifth game. Despite these challenges, Glenn reiterated his support for Fields, who was a key acquisition for the team with a two-year, $40 million contract, designed to assess his long-term potential. Although Fields ranks 29th out of 33 quarterbacks in Total QBR, Glenn prefers to give him more opportunities before considering Tyrod Taylor. In the game against the Broncos, Fields completed only 9 of 17 passes for 45 yards. Glenn acknowledged the need for Fields to make quicker decisions, but also pointed out the pressure from the opposing defensive line. At the end of the first half, Glenn opted not to attempt a play on fourth down, a decision that drew criticism. Star receiver Garrett Wilson expressed his disappointment with the strategy. Glenn admitted that he should have attempted a long pass in that situation. Despite the growing criticism, Glenn remains firm in his vision to improve the team, with the support of owner Woody Johnson. Regarding injuries, Glenn is awaiting the results of Wilson’s MRI, who suffered a knee injury.“He took a step back,” Glenn stated.
