Manchester Cathedral was the setting where Liam Gallagher, the renowned Oasis frontman and close friend of Hatton, along with Tyson Fury and Wayne Rooney, paid their respects. The news of Hatton’s passing, at the age of 46, caused great shock in the boxing world and among his fans.
The funeral procession, which began at the Cheshire Cheese pub, a place frequented by Hatton, included a tour of iconic places for the boxer, such as his gym and the AO Arena, where he lived memorable moments, highlighting his victory over Kostya Tszyu two decades ago.The iconic Reliant Robin from Only Fools and Horses led the funeral procession, a vehicle that Hatton admired and owned.
The ceremony was attended by important figures from British boxing, including Tony Bellew and Frank Bruno. His charisma took him to Las Vegas, where he faced Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao. British fans, singing and celebrating, left an indelible mark on boxing history.
After his defeat to Mayweather in 2007 and the knockout against Pacquiao in 2009, Hatton tried to return to boxing in 2012, but his attempt was unsuccessful.
Hatton was a great advocate for mental health and collaborated with charities in Manchester. In 2022, he participated in an exhibition against Marco Antonio Barrera and announced his return to professional boxing in Dubai for December, showing enthusiasm for the future before his passing.
