Erling Haaland: Hat-Trick Despite Penalty Misses
The Manchester City star striker, Erling Haaland, starred in a memorable match with the Norwegian national team, scoring a hat-trick in the 5-0 victory over Israel in the World Cup qualifiers. Despite missing two penalties, the Norwegian forward demonstrated his scoring ability.
The first penalty by Haaland was saved by Daniel Peretz. However, the referee ordered the penalty to be retaken because the goalkeeper moved forward. In the second attempt, Haaland tried a shot to the corner, but Peretz guessed the direction again, frustrating the striker.
Haaland recovered in the first half, scoring a goal after a pass from Alexander Sørloth. This was his tenth goal in the qualifying campaign.
The Norwegian striker continued his scoring streak, scoring two more goals for a total of 12, the most in the UEFA qualifying matches.
This hat-trick raised Haaland’s total goals with Norway to 51, solidifying him as his country’s all-time top scorer. He reached 50 goals in just 46 matches.
The victory keeps Norway undefeated in the standings, with six wins in six matches. They lead Italy’s team by nine points in Group I.
Norway hasn’t participated in a World Cup since 1998.
Before the match in Oslo, peaceful pro-Palestinian protests took place.
The stadium was almost full, with between 22,000 and 23,000 spectators. Capacity was reduced by 3,000 seats due to security measures.
