Jonathan Drouin suspended for one game after hit on Connor Dewar

New York Islanders winger Jonathan Drouin has been suspended for one game due to an elbowing penalty on Pittsburgh Penguins’ Connor Dewar late in Thursday night’s game.

The NHL’s Department of Player Safety announced the sanction on Friday, after conducting a disciplinary hearing to review the play.

Drouin, 30, received a five-minute major penalty and was ejected for unsportsmanlike conduct following the hit in a post-whistle scrum with 15 seconds remaining in the game, which sent Dewar to the ice on Thursday night.

This is the first suspension in Drouin’s career in the league. He will miss the Islanders’ home opener on Saturday night against Washington. In addition, he will lose $20,833 of his salary, money that will go to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
