New York Islanders forward Jonathan Drouin has been suspended for one game due to a cross-checking action against Pittsburgh’s Connor Dewar, as announced by the NHL’s Department of Player Safety.

The incident occurred during the end of the Thursday night game.

Drouin, 30 years old, received a major penalty of five minutes and was ejected from the game for the cross-check in a post-whistle scrum, leaving Dewar on the ice with 15 seconds left.

This is Drouin’s first suspension in his career in the league. He will miss the Islanders’ home opener on Saturday night against Washington.

In addition, Drouin will lose $20,833 from his salary, which will go to the Emergency Assistance Fund for Players.
