Leclerc Laments Ferrari’s Lack of Competitiveness in Singapore

Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc expressed his disappointment after the Singapore Grand Prix, describing the feeling of not being able to compete for victories as “not pleasant.” Leclerc, visibly frustrated, acknowledged that expectations for Ferrari have had to be adjusted, especially when seeing his rivals fight for the top positions. While Ferrari has yet to achieve a victory in the 2026 season, teams like McLaren, Red Bull, and Mercedes have demonstrated their superiority, achieving significant victories. George Russell of Mercedes secured the second victory of the year for his team in Singapore, while Leclerc and teammate Lewis Hamilton struggled to secure sixth and eighth place, respectively, due to brake issues.

From lap eight, it was basically about managing those brakes. It made our race very, very complicated.

Leclerc was frank in assessing Ferrari’s current situation in terms of competitiveness.

Unfortunately, we don’t have the race car to fight with those in front.

The driver added that McLaren has maintained a constant advantage, while Red Bull and Mercedes have shown significant improvements. Leclerc lamented Ferrari’s current position, which sees him as a “passenger” in the car, unable to extract more performance. Last season, Ferrari competed strongly with McLaren in the constructors’ championship, reaching the last race with possibilities. However, this season, Ferrari has not been able to match McLaren’s pace, who secured the championship with several races in advance. Leclerc tried to maintain a positive attitude when talking about the season.

I wouldn’t describe it as the most difficult season. I think every time you don’t fight for victories, it’s difficult, but obviously, coming from a year like the past, where you are fighting for the World Championship, the Constructors’ World Championship, and then you come here with high expectations.

Leclerc explained that it is necessary to lower expectations from the start and that the lack of progress during the year is a challenge. When asked about how to handle the disappointment of a season like 2026, he replied that although it requires a lot of energy, it motivates him even more to change the situation. He concluded by saying that it’s very tough, especially after a race like today’s, where you don’t even fight for a podium and have to deal with many problems. “It’s simply not a pleasant feeling.”
