The emblematic Azteca Stadium, witness to the 1970 and 1986 World Cup finals, will open its doors renovated on March 28, 2026, shortly before the start of the World Cup, according to Clara Brugada, head of government of Mexico City.

Brugada expressed his enthusiasm for hosting this global football celebration. The stadium, a national pride, will become the first to host the opening of three editions of the World Cup.

Mexico City prepares to be a splendid venue, as it was in 1970 with the coronation of Pelé and Brazil, and in 1986 with the consecration of Maradona and Argentina.

In a press conference, Brugada detailed the public works that will be carried out to improve the surroundings of the Azteca Stadium and other tourist spots in the capital, before the World Cup that will be played from June 11 to July 19, 2026.

The FIFA Fan Fest will be in the Zócalo of Mexico City and will have multiple activities for everyone, in addition, we will have soccer festivals in each of the 16 delegations of the capital so that fans can enjoy the matches.

Regarding security, a state-of-the-art video surveillance system will be implemented.

40,000 cameras have been acquired, to have a total of 123,000 in the city, which makes us the most surveilled city with this technology in all of Latin America.

Between February and June, the World Cup trophy will tour the 16 delegations of the capital.

The international media center will be established in Los Pinos, the former presidential residence.

In addition to the capital, Mexico will have World Cup matches in Monterrey and Guadalajara.
