Venue Change: Argentina vs. Puerto Rico Moves to Fort Lauderdale

The friendly match between the national teams of Argentina and Puerto Rico, initially scheduled for next week in Chicago, has been relocated to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The decision was made amid the growing migratory tension in the city, according to sources close to the event. The friendly match, which was originally scheduled to be played on October 13th at Soldier Field in Chicago, will now be played on October 14th at Chase Stadium. Negotiations to move the match to the Inter Miami stadium, the team where Lionel Messi plays, were underway.

We confirm that the Argentina vs. Puerto Rico match has been canceled in Chicago. The promoter made the decision this morning due to low ticket sales.

As of yet, no official statement has been released by the event promoter. An executive from the Argentine Football Association (AFA), who requested anonymity, explained that the change of venue was due to the situation in Chicago. The government has deployed the National Guard to control the protests related to immigration measures. In the Chicago area, more than 1,000 immigrants have been arrested since the start of immigration control operations last month. Argentina, the current world champion, will also play a friendly against Venezuela on Friday at Hard Rock Stadium, in the Miami area. Lionel Messi was called up to participate in both matches, which are part of Argentina’s preparation for the next World Cup. The tournament will be co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada from June 11 to July 19 of next year.
