WASHINGTON – The Washington Nationals activated right-handed pitcher Michael Soroka from the injured list to be the starter in the final game of the series against the Cleveland Guardians this Wednesday.
Soroka was placed on the 15-day injured list after suffering a biceps strain in his throwing arm during his Nationals debut, in the 5-2 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays on March 31. In that start, he allowed four runs in five innings.
Soroka, who was an All-Star with Atlanta during his first full season in 2019, has struggled with injuries since then. He suffered a ruptured right Achilles tendon in 2020 and then injured the same tendon entering the Atlanta stadium the following year. He missed the 2021 and 2022 seasons.
The 27-year-old pitcher hasn’t won in the Major Leagues since 2023. Last year, playing for the Chicago White Sox, he went 0-10 with an ERA of 4.74 in 25 appearances, including nine starts. To make room on the roster, Washington sent right-handed pitcher Eduardo Salazar to Triple-A Rochester. Salazar is 0-1 with a 9.77 ERA in 17 appearances this season.
